It's been a long-lingering fall foliage season in New England, and I was surprised by the amount of color still visible last weekend as I drove through western Connecticut and eastern New York State. The trees in my backyard, however, have shed most of their leaves, so this will be the final view I share with you this season. It's time for me to start raking before the cold really sets in! If you missed seeing New England's fall foliage for yourself this year, be sure to plan ahead for a 2008 New England fall foliage trip. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I had to scrape frost off my car windows for the first time this morning, but it's warmed up substantially now and turned into another lovely fall day. As you can see from this latest view outside my window, the leaves have started to scatter to the ground here in central Connecticut. Some trees are bare, but others are holding onto their crimson and golden crowns. By this time last year, the picture was much more bleak, so I'm delighted that I'll have reason to share at least one more photo with you next week.

We're still having unseasonably mild weather, but with nightfall arriving earlier each day, the leaves have finally taken the hint that it's their turn to shine. Foliage conditions are near peak here in central Connecticut, and I've been finding plenty of excuses to head outside and enjoy these glorious autumn days. Winter will be here too soon!

It's a perfect fall day here in Connecticut, and as you can see from the latest view outside my window, the color continues to come on slowly as we reach October's midpoint. With mild temperatures forecast for this weekend and plenty of leaves still waiting to turn, southern New England continues to put on a show for leaf peepers. I love my front-row seat!

Compare this week's picture of the view outside my window with the one from last week, and you'll see that the biggest change is that the leaves have thinned out a little. Otherwise, it almost seems as if Mother Nature has hit the brakes on fall color change. There's enough green in my view to make me think there'll be foliage to see in Connecticut for at least another week or two.

There's a touch of tangerine in the scene now, but there's still an awful lot of green outside my window, too. We're having a bit of an Indian summer this week, with temperatures expected to be in the 80s tomorrow through Saturday. It's a gorgeous time to see and appreciate the colors of fall in Connecticut.

Look carefully, and you'll see that there are definitely yellow leaves on the rear trees in the view from my window. As I mentioned last week, the leaves seem to be turning a bit early here in Connecticut this year, but interestingly enough, my husband flew to Toronto last Thursday, and everything was still pretty green up north. Fall foliage does not always follow predictable patterns, and I'm guessing that the dry spell we had in August may have contributed to the early color we're seeing in Connecticut.

I always enjoy sharing the view outside my window with the world as autumn decorates New England. As you can see from this first photo from the 2007 fall foliage season, my view is still mostly green, although you may detect a few hints of golden tint. From what I've observed in my travels this week, there's more fall color here in Connecticut than I've ever seen this early in the season. Granted, most trees are still fully green, but a few are sporting brilliant hues and there are even some that have dropped a few leaves. I have a hunch we might see some additional signs of color in next week's photo of the view from my window.
